There will never be any one definitive must-see location on the planet, as different things appeal to different people. Some people’s holiday of a lifetime might be to New York, others flock to Rome. Those who yearn for the tranquility and beauty of a Pacific Island, though, would do well to visit Bora Bora

Bora Bora means “first born” and was known in legends as the first island to rise when the supreme god, Taaroa, fished it out of the waters after the mythical creation of Havai’I, now known as Raiatea.
Its clear waters and the tropical climate are among its main draws, but the people here are also warm and hospitable.
The island boasts its world renowned shopping center for local and international original art, Tahitian pearls, perfumes and oils, and wood handcrafts.
If you decide to fly in, it’s only an hour away from Tahiti or Moorea, and as you approach you will see the castle-like Mount Otemanu rising from its skyline.
But if you have your own boat, or have the chance to sail to Bora Bora, then you’ll be able to approach at a more leisurely pace that allows you to take in the coastline.

Even if you are able to sleep aboard a boat, you may feel you’re missing out on true island life and being able to sample the natural wonders of the island. So for many people, camping on Bora Bora is an attractive option.
There are a couple of camping grounds on the island, and though the facilities may be somewhat basic, staying in a tent gives you more of a feel for your surroundings.
Even if you don’t have your own, it’s possible to find cheap tents for hire or sale on the island.
